Mixed-media artist Sharon White’s Mission Statement
“TREE OF LIFE”
Mixed-media artist, Sharon White, depicts the sheer essence of beauty and femininity in her interpretation of this Tree of Life artwork. Each butterfly attached to the tree was fashioned by women all over the UK who have been affected by breast cancer (to include 50 women from Sharon’s home town of Christchurch). The lace, fabric and fine detail were taken from bras donated and autographed by celebrities and headline names, from the likes of Lorraine Kelly, Tess Daly, Jane McDonald, Denise Welch, Kirstie Allsopp and Strictly Come Dancing’s professional dancers.
Sharon's vision was to capture the positive energy from the women she worked with; to create a dramatic piece that would ultimately celebrate life and female strength. The butterflies represent positive transition while the use of delicate fabrics from the bras and wedding dresses echo the true meaning of feminity. Over 4 million people were reached via Twitter raising awareness for Breast Cancer Care during Sharon’s tour in 2014.
The Tree has now travelled over 10,000 miles from the Dorset coast, to the UAE planting roots in every City it visits. It was also proudly exhibited at London’s prestigious Fashion & Textile Museum and has been seen by Royalty.
Sharon truly believes in the therapeutic value of art. She believes we face this battle together and stay united in our belief to embrace change, not only with positive attitudes in our heads but continual hope in our hearts. Just like the butterflies, Sharon’s ethos is to ascend. Watch this space for details of Sharon’s well being and mindfulness workshops and future exhibitions
